Is your catalogue readable to AI shopping agents?

Free Floor-5 + ranking-spread + UCP readiness + Store Quality — paste a URL, we probe /products.json, Product JSON-LD, sitemap, OG, and robots, then score GTIN · AggregateRating · Brand · Canonical · Description · Offers.availability · SKU · image alt · hreflang · JSON-LD validity, plus shipping · returns · site experience adjacency. Or run full readiness / compare two. Then Feed Intelligence at $49/mo for what Merchant Center actually holds.

Questions merchants ask about AI shopping and Google feeds.

Unless an answer says otherwise, the Merchant Center checks below are shown as notes next to your score and do not change it.

Is the score the same for ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Mode?

Mostly. The 15 floor and ranking-spread signals are the union of what ChatGPT Shopping, Perplexity Shopping, and Google AI Mode read — about 12 catalog and structured-data signals overlap. Three signals diverge: Brand entity matters more for Perplexity, image alt-text matters more for ChatGPT Shopping, and review recency (fresh Review.datePublished / Review schema) matters more for Google AI Mode. The score is the best single number; the per-signal breakdown lets you optimize for whichever agent you care about most.

What does the free scan check besides missing images and product types?

It reads three groups of signals. Catalog feed: GTIN barcodes, Google product categories, structured data and prices, which is how Google and AI shopping assistants identify a product. Discoverability: your sitemap, robots.txt, canonical tags and Open Graph tags. Reviews and availability: star ratings, how recent your reviews are, stock status and shipping windows. Barcodes and ratings count toward the score. Stock status, shipping windows and categories are shown next to it as notes and do not change the number.

My products have no barcode. What should I send to Google?

If a product truly has no GTIN, set identifier_exists to no in your feed instead of leaving it empty. Products with missing identifiers and no such flag are a common reason for disapprovals. Do not paste a barcode into the MPN field either: MPN is the manufacturer's part number, and a GTIN parked there reads as a wrong value. The scan flags both, and it also flags shipping labels written as sentences or prices, because Merchant Center expects a short group name such as oversized.

What are product highlights, and does Google's AI Mode use them?

Product highlights (product_highlight) are short bullet points about the product itself, such as material, fit or what is in the box. Google says they help shoppers find product details across AI-driven surfaces like AI Mode in Search. Send at least 2 and no more than 100; Google recommends 4 to 6, each under 150 characters. Leave out promotions, comparisons and links. The scan flags products with no highlights or fewer than 2. Source: https://support.google.com/merchants/answer/9216100

Should I add questions and answers to my Merchant Center feed?

It is optional, but it can help. Google's conversational attributes let you send question-and-answer pairs (question_and_answer) and a popularity rank for each product (popularity_rank), so AI Mode and other shopping assistants can answer buyers' questions from your own data. Write real questions customers ask, not your description split into pieces. The scan shows whether your catalogue sends them; it does not change the score. Which other optional feed fields help AI shopping answers?

Three more are worth knowing. document_link points to a manual or spec sheet as a PDF. related_product links accessories, spare parts or bundles to the main product. item_group_title and variant_option name a product family and what sets each variant apart, such as size or colour, so an assistant does not confuse one variant with another. All are optional extras on top of a good title and description, and the scan only reports whether they are present. Source: https://support.google.com/merchants/answer/17085370

Do I need to add energy labels or certifications to my feed?

If your products carry a certification such as an EU energy label, Google asks for a certification attribute in three parts: authority, name and code. For an EU energy label that is EC:EPREL: followed by the product's EPREL code. Google may fill it in from your GTIN or MPN, but sending it yourself lets you correct a missing or wrong value. Can I show my products in 3D or AR on Google?

For some products, yes. Add virtual_model_link with a link to a 3D model in glTF (.gltf) or GLB (.glb) format. The link can be up to 2000 characters, and Google recommends files of 15 MB or less. 3D and AR are shown in the US, Canada, Australia, Japan and India (US, CA, AU, JP, IN), for home goods and shoes. The scan flags a missing link, the wrong file format, or a product whose category or country is not eligible. Does a video link help my Google listings?

It can. With video_link you can add product videos: http or https links to YouTube or to a video file (.MPG, .MP4, .WMV, .AVI, .MOV, .FLV or .MPEG), each up to 2000 characters, and up to 10 per product. Google announced the change on 2026-04-14: you can submit videos now, and Google starts showing them and checking them against its policy and quality rules on 2026-06-30. The scan flags a missing link, an unsupported format, or more than 10 videos. Sources: https://support.google.com/merchants/answer/15216925 and https://support.google.com/merchants/answer/16989427

How do I add technical specs to my Google listing?

Use product_detail. Each entry has three parts, written section_name:attribute_name:attribute_value. The section is optional but recommended; the name and value are required. You can send up to 100 entries, with up to 140 characters for the section, 140 for the name and 1000 for the value. The scan flags products with no details or entries that do not follow that pattern. How do I tell Google my order cutoff time and minimum order value?

Google added two product-level shipping attributes on 2026-04-14. handling_cutoff_time sets the daily order cutoff: cutoff_time is required, written as HHMM or HH:MM, and 2359 means no cutoff; country, cutoff_timezone and disable_delivery_after_cutoff are optional. minimum_order_value is optional and written as country:price, with optional service and surface, up to 100 entries. Can I pause a product on Google without deleting it?

Yes. Set pause to ads to stop showing the product in ads, or to all to stop showing it everywhere. A product paused with all is archived after 14 days. The scan flags a pause value that is missing or not ads or all. Source: https://support.google.com/merchants/answer/11909930

How do I show member prices or loyalty points on Google?

Add loyalty_program. It takes a program_label, a tier_label if your program has several tiers, and the member benefit: a member price, loyalty_points, or a shipping_label for member shipping. How big do my product images need to be for Google?

Your main image (image_link) and extra images (additional_image_link) need to be at least 500 by 500 pixels, and Google recommends 1500 by 1500. Since April 14, 2026 Merchant Center shows the warning “Image too small for upcoming enforcement”, and enforcement starts January 31, 2027. Do I need to tell Google if AI wrote my product titles?

Yes, if a title was written with generative AI. Send it as structured_title: the content part is required and can be up to 150 characters, and digital_source_type is optional, either default or trained_algorithmic_media. Do lifestyle photos help my free listings on Google?

They can. Google lets you add lifestyle images (lifestyle_image_link) that show the product in use: clothing on a model, a sofa in a room, a set laid out together. They appear in free listings next to your main product photo. You can send up to 5 per product, each at least 600 by 600 pixels, with no promotional text, borders or padding. How this compares to other free scans.

Most free scans start with a Floor-5 check: products.json, Product JSON-LD, sitemap, OG and robots. Ours then scores ranking-spread (Description · SKU · JSON-LD validity + Brand · Canonical · Offers + GTIN · rating · alt) out of 70, plus Microsoft UCP readiness (return_policy_labels · consumer_message) and Store Quality (shipping · returns · site experience). Every result gets a shareable /scorecard/{domain} page and badge, the homepage shows a Recently scanned strip, and a public /leaderboard lists the top 100. All of it is free with no login and no email gate, along with full readiness and compare-two-stores with top signals and top fixes.

The paid plan does something different. Feed Intelligence scores the Google catalogue after Merchant Center OAuth: coverage gaps, disapprovals under live ads, offer-ID rewrites between snapshots. A public scanner cannot see that half. Catalog monitoring is $49/mo with a 14-day trial inside Shopify.
